‘A compelling exploration of memory and madness’ – Snow, Dog, Foot reviewed in The Herald

With just over a week to go before the publication of the first Peirene Stevns Translation Prize winner, Claudio Morandini’s Snow, Dog, Foot translated by J Ockenden, the reviews are starting to come in and they have been overwhelmingly positive!

Malcolm Forbes reviewed Snow, Dog, Foot for The Herald, calling it “a compelling exploration of memory and madness”. He praises Ockenden’s “seamless” translation and the dexterity of Morandini’s writing:

“He takes us through a range of emotions, his double-act often amusing us and unsettling us on the same page. His setting is skilfully mapped: no Alpine idyll or romantic retreat but an ugly, rocky mountainous wilderness. His seemingly limpid prose contains murky depths.”
