After a wonderful Salon with Peirene No. 25 Soviet Milk author Nora Ikstena we are so excited to announce that tickets for the second Salon of the year are on sale now!
Our Summer Salon will focus on Peirene No. 26 Shadows on the Tundra, a piece of Lithuanian survival literature written by Dalia Grinkevičiutė.
At the age of 21, Dalia escapes the Siberian gulag and returns to her home in Lithuania. She writes her memories on scraps of paper and buries them in the garden, fearing they might be discovered by the KGB. They are not found until 1991, four years after her death. Shadows on the Tundra is the first English translation of these papers.
On the 16th of June 2018 Dalia’s close friend Vytene Muschick, translator of the German edition of Shadows on the Tundra, will join our Salon to discuss Dalia’s incredible writing. She will be joined by Delija Valiukenas who translated the book for Peirene into English.
You can read more about the Salon here.
Tickets are £15 for subscribers, £25 for non-subscribers and £15 for under-25s.
