I’m a little overwhelmed to share the news that our translator Delija Valiukenas has been shortlisted for the Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize for her translation of Peirene No. 26 Shadows on the Tundra!
‘I’m absolutely stunned! Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine my name ever being linked with the word “shortlisted.” The nomination for the Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize is especially gratifying given the nature of Shadows on the Tundra and the circumstances surrounding it. That Dalia’s hurriedly written manuscript stuffed into a humble glass jar, buried in the yard, and then never found by her again, which she naturally would assume was lost forever–that it should have reached the attention of no less an institution than Oxford University is the stuff of fiction, even dreams. I’m thrilled beyond words that my translation helped to make that happen. I wish that Dalia Grinkevičiūtė herself were still alive to share in that great sense of achievement.’
On top of this, we have also recently released a translation of an extract from Dalia’s later memoir on our website which is free to read here: https://www.peirenepress.com/shop/deals/shadows-on-the-tundra/
There also are two further extracts available to subscribers in our online bookclub! https://www.peirenepress.com/subscriber-book-club/
If you haven’t read this incredible book then you can currently get a copy for half price on our website. Many congratulations to Delija and fingers crossed for the 15th of June!
