‘Children of the Cave resounds as a commentary on the present’ – Peirene No. 28 reviewed by World Literature Today

We’ve just received Lanie Tankard’s great review of Peirene No. 28 Children of the Cave for World Literature Today!

Lovely to see her pick up on the shared language of Virve Sammalkorpi’s book and classics like William Golding’s Lord of the Flies and Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness – all exploring what happens when man returns to his fundamental nature.

Tankard praised Sammalkorpi’s’ agile prose, orchestrating the suspense building throughout ‘with deft David Copperfield moves’.

In a time of worrying intolerance, Tankard is sadly right to take Children of the Cave’s lasting warning on the dangers of being ‘different where everyone else is alike’ as a resounding ‘commentary on the present’.
