Join us for an evening of conversation and wine to celebrate the launch of Shatila Stories in Arabic.
In August 2018 Peirene Press published Shatila Stories, a piece of collaborative fiction written by nine Syrian and Palestinian refugees in a writing workshop facilitated by Meike in Shatila Camp, Beirut. This remarkable novel was “a resounding success” (The Guardian), and all profits made from its sale went to the charity Basmeh and Zeitooneh who work to create opportunities for refugees in camps across Lebanon and Turkey.
Since then, Peirene has published Shatila Stories in Arabic, and to celebrate the launch Meike will be joined by author and long term friend of Peirene, Lucy Popescu, for a conversation about the importance of refugee writing and Meike’s experience at the Shatila camp.
This event will also offer visitors the chance to ask their own questions to Meike, as well as receive a glass of wine and a chance to mingle.
When: 7pm, Saturday 9th March
Where: Waterstones, Crouch End, London
Ticket Price: £4 for Peirene subscribers; £6 for non-subscribers
