A salon evening with Peirene's German author Friedrich Christian Delius.
Saturday, 18. September 2010, 7.30pm
Peirene Premises, London N19
Please join us to celebrate the launch of Peirene’s third title, “Portrait of the Mother as a Young Woman”. I am thrilled to welcome the author himself, Friedrich Christian Delius. He will be in conversation with his translator Jamie Bulloch and the literary reviewer Chris Schüler.
Christian is one of Germany’s most renowned living authors, who has written more than 20 novels and poetry collections. He has won numerous prizes and his books have been translated into 17 languages. Jamie has been a literary translator since 2001. He will talk about the challenges of translating “Portrait”, a single, 120-page-long sentence that reads like a page-turner. Chris Schüler’s book reviews appear regularly in The Independent and The New Statesman. He was one of the first to read “Portrait” and had one comment: “terrific”.
I am very much looking forward to our sixth Peirene Salon, which promises to be an intellectually stimulating and enriching evening.
Please book early by phoning 0207 6861941 or email: meike.ziervogel@peirenepress.com.
We request an £10/ per person donation towards the artists' fees. Wine, potato salad, cheese and cake will be served after the reading.
With special thanks to the Goethe-Institut who kindly funded Friedrich Christian Delius' travel and accommodation.
