PEIRENE'S BEST 2016 AWARDS

Best Action Man: Peirene’s publishing assistant James who sorted out – single handedly and courageously – the hole-punch situation at Peirene HQ.

Best Vocals: This has to be Counterpoints Arts’, our chosen charity’s. Because Peirene (and Meike) were appointed as their Communication advisors earlier in the year to help them develop their 'voice'.

Best Baby: Tamu for having a brilliant sense of time keeping. She was born a couple of weeks after her mother, Olumide Popoola and co-author Annie Holmes delivered the final draft of Peirene Now! No1, breach about the Calais refugee camps.

Best Handbag: Our new Canvas bag. Will turn you into the talk of the town.

Best Film Star: Anthony Cartwright, the author of Peirene Now! No 2, a novel about Brexit. Watch the nail biting editorial dramas on our youtube channel.

Best Headline: Ricarda Who? Everything you ever wanted to know about Ricarda Huch. Page 3 in Peirene’s newspaper issue No 5. Distributed at London tube stations next year.

Best Bestseller: Peirene No 16, White Hunger by Aki Ollikainen, translated from the Finnish by Fleur Jeremiah and Emily Jeremiah. Booker prize longlisted and always the first title sold out at our market stalls.

Best Campaign: We attempted to sway the outcome of the EU referendum with our Open Letter that was signed by 250 professionals from the UK publishing world. Sadly to no avail. But still... we tried.

Best Pink Cover: Peirene No 21, The Empress and the Cake by Austrian Linda Stift, translated by Jamie Bulloch. Meike is now wondering if she should paint her bedroom in that shade.

Best Song: ‘I say a little prayer’ is on the mind of our intern Phoebe who has been wrapping Peirene books for Christmas since the beginning of November.

Thank you for reading our books, buying our books, your companionship and support throughout 2016. And a big thank you this year to everyone who helped us to kickstart Peirene Now! No 2, The Cut. You have a special place in the Nymph's heart forever.

Happy Christmas and einen Guten Rutsch ins Neue Jahr.

Best wishes Meike
