All novels are about crime. You'd be hard pressed to find any novel that does not have an element of crime.
Peirene’s Best 2012 Awards
Best Song – Composed especially for The Nymph. Fabian Kuenzli’s Variations on Sea of Ink. Peirene fans witnessed a stunning world premier by the Swiss clarinet player at our September Peirene Experience event. Fabian composed the piece in response to reading Peirene No 9, Sea of Ink by Richard Weihe.
Best Bureaucratic Moment –Submitting the EU funding form on time. Last year, Meike & Maddy missed the online application deadline by exactly one minute. Tears and tantrums. But a deadline is a deadline. We learnt our lesson. This year we succeeded and secured EU funding for 2013.
Best Lit Festival – The Women of the World Festival at the South Bank Centre. It was opened by an impressive one-woman show: Lisa Dwan’s stage adaptation of Peirene No 1, Beside the Sea by Veronique Olmi.
Best Goddess – Maya. Goddess of the Earth, Goddess of Illusion. Nearly as good-looking as The Nymph. Name sake of The Maya Centre, a charity that offers free counseling to women on low incomes in their own language. 50p of each 2013 Peirene book sold will go to this pioneering charity.
Best Crime Fiction: Peirene’s books. All of them. Think about it: All our tales include a crime. If you don't believe me, send me an email.
Best Adventurer - Jodi Baker, who travelled from the West Midlands to Peirene HQ every Monday for two months. Jodi works for a software company. When she encountered our books, she was impressed by our branding. She realized that her company might be able to learn a few marketing tricks. So, she applied for a Peirene internship, then persuaded her boss to give her the time off work. The Peirene ladies were lucky to have her, and her boss didn’t regret his decision.
Best e-Book – Our ‘geek’ books: No 4, Next World Novella by Matthias Politycki and No 6, Maybe This Time by Alois Hotschnig.
Best Fighter-of–the–Elements: Jennifer, Peirene’s Roaming Store Manager. Even minus temperatures don’t frighten her. Last week when she sold Peirene books outside Budgens in Belsize Park, she wore: 2 pair of tights, thermal leggings, 2 pairs of socks, thermal vest, 2 jumpers, cardigan, 2 scarves, hat, gloves and ear muffs.
Best Newspaper – Peirene’s. Even better looking than the Nymph herself. Thanks to our designer Sacha and illustrator Giulia.
Best Peirene Fan - all our lovely subscribers, and especially the ones who have already subscribed for the next three years. xxx to you from the Nymph.
