Independent bookshops.

This is a list of independent bookshops that have caught Peirene's attention.

Big Green Bookshop, N22

Peirene likes Tim and Simon's bookshop. But she loves their website and absolutely adores their energetic, individualistic attitude to bookselling. They now feature in their shop and on their website "Bloggers' book choice of the month." Big applause from the Nymph.

Clerkenwell Tales, EC 1

A beautiful new bookshop in beautiful Exmouth market. Owner Peter Ho is selective and opinionated about what he stocks and he loves carefully desinged books. So Peirene is proud to announce: Her books are on his shelves.

Daunt Books, NW3, W1, SW10

On Saturday mornings, after dropping her son at football, Meike has a coffee next to Daunt's in Hampstead. Peirene is with me. She slips off her chair and stands in front of Daunt's shopwindow with longing in her heart and a hope that one day she too might sparkle in the display.

Falmouth Bookshop, Cornwall

The hugely successful and influential bookshop on the Cornish coast. Don't hit the beach without buying your book there first.

Highgate Bookshop, N6

One of Peirene's local bookshops. The Nymph is so pleased it exists among all the hairdressers and estate agents. Tiny, well-organised, with a well thought-through selection.
Highgate bookshop

John Sandoe, SW3

If you cannot make it to the shop, then visit it's website. The staff write real book reviews (i.e. not the Waterstone's bought-for-money type) and some of them are indeed real writers with books published by Cuckoo Press, the shop's own publishing house. An absolute gem of a bookshop.

Kew Bookshop, Richmond

Mark Brighton, the owner of Kew Bookshop, rang Meike up after he read Peirene's first title "Beside the Sea" and told her he loves the book. He compared it to Cormac McCarthy's "The Road." Needless to say, he found a fan for life in Peirene.
One of London's finest bookshops

London Review Bookshop, WC1

The London independent bookshop par excellence: modern, sleek and informative with a well organised website. And the cakes in their coffeeshop are just divine. Even Peirene remains seated.

Mr B's Emporium of Reading Delights, Bath

Personal and opiniated, Mr B won the Independent Bookshop of the Year 2008 award. And rightly so. Just take a look at the picture of his shop on the website - big leather armchairs surrounded by books. Can't get better.

Muswell Hill Bookshop, N10

When Meike walked into the shop the other day, there was a display of books from small independent publishers right next to the entrance. Needless to say, Peirene's and her heart were flooded by pure joy!

Owl Bookshop, NW5

Meike often cycles along Kentish Town Road. It's busy, noisy and polluted, She keeps her head down and just wants to come out alive. It took her years to notice the Owl bookshop. Don't make the same mistake!
a fantastic review

Philip Howard Books in Rotherham, South Yorkshire

The manager Stuart Charmak read Peirene Title No 1 and wrote a beautiful review about it. If he does that for every Peirene book, the Nymph might indeed consider moving to Yorkshire.

Primrose Hill Books, NW1

Owner Jessica Graham has been running this highly successful gem of a bookshop for some years now. Stuffed with books and filled with wonderful advice of what to read, this is the definite equivalence of Aladdin's Cave for bookaholics.

Prospero's Books, N8

Peirene's local bookshop. It's a tiny shop stuffed with books and always advertises local authors in the window. Meike often finds herself hanging out there, when she's actually suppose to buy fish and veggies from across the road to feed her poor starving family. But they can wait.

Sevenoaks Bookshop, Kent

Meike met the delightful Valerie Glencross from Sevenoaks Bookshop at the Book Industry conference in May 2010. She was thrilled to hear that they championed Peirene Title No 1 hugely and had already pre-ordered No 2.

Simply Books, Cheshire

Independent Bookseller of the Year 2009. And they deserve it. Meike heard owner Andrew Cant speak at a conference in London - enthusiastic, forward thinking and full of ideas.

The Open Book, Richmond

A friend of Meike's sent her an email "Seen Beside the Sea in the window of a fantastic little bookshop in Richmond. The owner is delightful." Peirene is thrilled and honoured, and convinced their book taste is outstanding.

The Travel Bookshop, W11

In the film "Notting Hill" it was run by Hugh Grant. But in real life it's much better. Honestly. An absolute must for anybody interested in international literary fiction. And a great website too.

Topping Books, Bath and Ely

Robert Topping used to work for Waterstone's. He opened his own bookshop a few years ago. It's now a feature of the town. Don't ever think of going to Bath without making a visit. Check out their continous flow of author events beforehand - there is something for everyone.

Westbourne Bookshop, Bournemouth

When Peirene sent Joanna O'Rourke review copies of her first three books, Joanna sent back by post a handwritten thank you note. What a joy!
