Meike Ziervogel, publisher of Peirene Press, sat up the Peirene Salon in the summer of 2009. Every three month on a Saturday evening she opens her house to readers and writers for a traditional salon evening with literature, conversation, dinner and wine. Each salon is now a sold out event with a waiting list in place. Anyone interested in literature and books is welcome. Meike would be delighted to meet you.

"It was more than an honour to chair a Peirene salon -- it was a pleasure. The atmosphere was friendly, relaxed, and intelligent -- a testament to the calibre of both the writers I interviewed and the calibre of the audience. And the food and wine were splendid, too. In fact, it was all more like a symposium, in the classical sense, than anything else. " Nicholas Lezard

“I haven’t experienced so much fun, good humour and inspiration till the early hours in the morning at an event for years. And never before have I experienced such a charming, energetic hostess as Meike in the midst of it all.”  Matthias Polyitycki

"A fine event, generously hosted by Meike Ziervogel and her team, generating, and more than satisfying, an appetite for culture and books in a very convivial pocket of North London." David Flusfeder

"Peirene was my first salon (coming, as I do, from Aberdeen) but, despite my trepidation, it was a surprise and a delight. The audience members were young, intelligent and unusually attractive – given what I’m used to on the poetry circuit – and they sat very attentively through my grim repertoire. The whisky afterwards was a cask-strength Bruichladdich and I sipped at that spring like a storm-blown Pegasus, transported to Corinth by way of Islay. (Or the other way round, perhaps.)" Robin Robertson, Scottish Poet

"Reading at the Peirene Salon is a wonderfully unique and intimate experience. It is quite unlike any other venue, a truly independent and literary arena, and one has the sense of being as close to that original idea of artistic and cultural exchange as it is possible in the modern age. " Sarah Hall, author

"The Peirene Salon is a unique experience for book lovers - a delightful, informal evening that combines readings, conversation, food and wine in an intimate setting that blurs the boundaries between reader and writer. The friendliest salon in London." Suzi Feay, Financial Times

"Thanks so much for Saturday night's salon. A lovely bunch of literary people and an eminent SophieHannah to pull it all together. It was impressive." Sophie Lewis, a Salon attendee

"A hugely enjoyable evening and real confirmation of your commitment and passion for your books." Margaret Bluman, a Salon attendee

"It was a great evening Meike - you deserve much success! Great whisky drinking too." Stella Kane, a Salon attendee

"The idea is terrific and I can't believe noone else has thought about it before you. I am sure you will be very very successful!" Elisa Kaczynska-Nay, a Salon attendee

"Thank you so very much for such a lovely inspiring and thought provoking evening. I had a wonderful time - it was really great. I wish you a most successful publication and I cannot wait to read the next!" Andy Hine, a Salon attendee
